2014
In 2011, I returned to my motherland, Ghana, to reconnect with my roots, an experience that left me profoundly inspired. From this journey, I created a portrait to honor my uncle, a Colonel in the Ghanaian army, who served during pivotal moments in the country’s history, including the era of the Gold Coast.
I employed vibrant colors for his uniform, each hue chosen to reflect the spirit of its time. Geometric patterns, inspired by the rich tradition of Ashanti kente cloth, further anchored the work in the cultural heritage. The interplay between the foreground and background, mirrored across twelve images, symbolizes the evolution of both personal and national legacies, as well as the passage of time.
